More Origami Tutorials
Today Room 104 learned how to create Origami Dogs. They had a lot of fun folding and then adding some character to their dogs by adding a face. Mrs. Joiner made a super cute dog that gave the kids a big smile.
First the kids learned from a direction sheet with Mercedes reading and Ms. Bolotin demonstrating. Next they had to make one on their own or with the help of a friend. Guess what? They were FANTASTIC! Eddie said he was going to take one home for his mom. Boy is she lucky!
Joseph did a terrific job, really focusing on his project. Ms. Bolotin really liked the way that everyone helped each other.
We also learned that Mercedes has done Origami before and she is really good at it. Curtis remembered that he learned to make a cup last year and wanted to show everyone how to do it.
Below is a video of Mercedes and Curtis that will teach you how to make an Origami Heart and Cup. Great job you two!
I think next week Nicole wants to make a video and show everyone how to make the Origami Dog she learned how to make today. Can't wait Nicole. :-)

Earth Day 2011
Room 202 is working on some fabulous Earth Day projects. Ms. Sulentic's class is creating posters to celebrate the big day. They are doing a fantastic job. I hear that they are really helping each other out. Many student's have asked Jose to draw something for them. As many of you know Jose loves to draw. I hope to show you more of their work soon.

Cranes for Japan
Don't you just love when students learn from each other?
Jonathan in Room 105 has folded the most origami "Cranes for Japan" at Near North. First he learned how from Alexis, who taught Jonathan's entire room how to do it. Next he took home a direction sheet and began folding. Now Jonathan can fold the crane by memory just like Alexis and I'm sure could teach others to do it!
The short video below is just a small sample of what Jonathan has folded!
If you see Jonathan please thank him for his efforts to help the people of Japan. $2.00 for every crane folded goes to Japan through "Students Rebuild".

Home Sweet Home...Chicago!
Take a trip around our great city.
Here is a great site to learn more about Chicago.
Next stop by the Museum of Science and Industry (online of course) and try this fun game to learn about simple machines!
Then hop on over to the Art Institute and create some fabulous Art or listen to a story.
Now If you're not to tired from your travels why don't you stop by The Shedd Aquarium for a little relaxation with the fish.
Hungry? Why not stop and make yourself a Chicago Style Hot Dog?
Finally, why don't you try some of these Chicago Jigsaw Puzzles. Can you identify any of the places in the puzzles? I bet you can.

Barn Owl Slide show
Dear Visitors,
We have been following several live animal cams. One of our favorites has been Sydney and Mel and their six owlets. We have been watching them since the owlets were born. Here are pictures (screenshots) we have taken and put into a slide show. It's amazing how fast the owlets are growing.
If you have any questions for us please leave a comment and we will post the answer on our blog.
Thank you for stopping by and enjoy our slide show!
Near North Students
If you would also like to see the cams (eagles, hummingbirds, Africa, black bear den etc.) we are watching click on the eagle.
